|
| Overview: |
Despite common misperceptions, it is legal for nonprofits to lobby.
|
| Details: | According to a report from Donors Forum, lobbying by charitable organizations was principally responsible for curtailing the use of tobacco products by teenagers, setting aside 1.7 million acres of federal land in Utah as a national monument, and for gaining greater mental health insurance protection for people suffering from mental illness.
But what do you need to know before undertaking a lobbying effort?
In this session, YOU'LL LEARN ABOUT:
• The federal laws governing 501(c)(3) organizations that lobby
• How to determine how much lobbying activities you can engage, including the safe harbor test of Section 501(h)
• Definitions of direct and grassroots lobbying
• Exemptions to the definition of lobbying
• State regulation of lobbying
• Record-keeping requirements

• Executive directors
• CFOs, COOs, and senior staff
• Board members |
